Moved into a flat and found a bunch of the landlord’s stuff in the garden. Asked them to remove it and they said no because they still wanted it and had no other place to put it.

Got keys for new flat and couldn’t open the door. Had to ring the landlord for help. They came over in a huff and blamed me that it wouldn’t open because I previously told them I would to use both locks on the door for security and turns out one doesn’t work. Was then told only to use the working one.

Painted the whole flat and turned the overgrown garden into an abyss. The following year the landlord asked for a 25% rent increase.

Was told the sudden damp and mould everywhere was because we didn’t open windows enough. Turns out the wash washing was broken and there was a foot of water under the house.

The landlord promised to fix a bunch of things before moving in. Of course, he didn’t. After trying to get in touch with him for a week, I left him a message to saying I had called the council for advice on this situation. He rang me back immediately, yelled at me and said if I ever called the council again I’d regret it. Good times.

The landlord entered without warning and started throwing away the moving boxes we had stored in the cupboard because he didn’t want anything there. 🙄

Ceiling partially collapsed in one bedroom and estate agent claimed it was no big deal as it was our *spare* room.

There was a cracked tile in the shower. The landlord blamed me for cracking it, although I only had plastic bottles in the shower. When someone finally came to fix it, turns out he had a cowboy install the shower and placed the hot water pipe right against the tiles and the heat broke them. No apology.
Anonymous renting horror stories from tenants in the UK. We might regret this, but at the same time give us what you’ve got.
