Manchester – October 31, 2023
My landlord is raising the rent by a massive 22% (£300 per month). I can’t afford it, and when I told him, he said I should move out. I’ve been here for four years.
London – October 23, 2023
Moved between countries, signed a long-term lease for a flat in London, two months in the landlord notified us he intends to sell the property, and forced us out the next month.
London – October 16, 2023
Landlord tried to DOUBLE the rent from £2000 to £4000. Said they need to redo the kitchen floor which was already promised to us before moving in
London – October 10, 2023
I was living in an 8 bed house in London. When I moved in told 3 bathrooms, when I moved in was just the one plumbed in, lovely bathrooms in the basement, nicely tiled etc, good looking showers, never got plumbed in. Lived there 4 years. Begrudged knowing the queue for the shower could have been a 1/3 of the time every morning
London – October 10, 2023
Didn’t know it could rain inside, water coming through lights into bathroom, took 6 months for landlord to finally get round to getting a builder in to fix.
Gravesend – October 10, 2023
Living in Kent and I think we changed house half a dozen times in 12 months.
Recently moved to a flat with single glazed windows and the only electric heating. Still our fault for the mould tho
Camden, London – October 10, 2023
Years ago, I lived with a flatmate who’d get blind drunk most nights. This Amy Winehouse wannabe would stumble home drunk, eat my food and call us all c*unts.
In the morning, she’d have her tail between her legs…then rinse and repeat.
She also had the nerve to asked me to cover her share of bills.
Harrogate – October 10, 2023
Today, 61 days after moving out, we finally got the deposit back from the flat we rented for 5 years and they want
– £7 for dust on the lampshade
– £3 dust on one skirting
– £5 cleaning door knobs
Bristol – October 10, 2023
Landlord tried to evict me after asking for a gas safety certificate and working smoke alarm.
London – October 10, 2023
Boiler broke one winter. After 4 days with no heat or hot water, asked the landlord what was going on and he said he EMAILED the plumber he likes to use and was waiting for a reply.
Anonymous renting horror stories from tenants in the UK. We might regret this, but at the same time give us what you’ve got.
