Landlord raised the rent 30%. Lol. Had to leave.
Durham – February 6, 2024
Friend is renting a one bedroom flat for £1200 a month. Yesterday there was water literally coming through the ceiling, and they told her to “set down a bowl” and “these houses are old and surely you can fix it”

Nothing to do with the landlord but i have a horrible neighbour who lets his dog shit everywhere and won’t even clean it up when called out. It’s like a poo minefield when going to the shops and I once stepped on a landmine.
London – January 18, 2024
I’m facing eviction from my apartment just because I tried to negotiate a hefty 25% rent increase.
Here’s the deal: I’ve been living here for two years, and when my landlord proposed this steep hike, I pushed back, citing the rising cost of living. What happens next? They cut communication, and then out of nowhere, I get a section 21 notice, telling me to vacate.
Despite being a reliable tenant, it seems my landlord, who’s managing multiple properties from Hong Kong, is not open to discussion and has even switched to a new letting agent.

The bathroom ceiling was leaking and started to falling off. Like bits falling on to your head when showering.
When I asked the landlord to repair it he sent this email”If you are unhappy then with the flat you should consider moving elsewhere”.
Didcot – January 9, 2024
Last landlord is an asshole. Even though the place was in a perfect condition, he wants to keep the deposit. We even cleaned the oven spotless which was caked in shit when we moved in.
London (Camden) – January 4, 2024
Neighbours had a hot tub and treated their garden as a private club in the warm summer days without any consideration for the 50 neighbours looking down on them. They blasted crap music, like really CRAP, and screamed at each other to all hours of the morning. I can’t even begin to describe how much I wanted to drown them their own hot tub
Birmingham – January 4, 2024
We asked the landlord to replace the taps as the current one was fault, but she insists we have to foot the bill and use her designated plumber
London – December 21, 2023
2 bedroom flat in east London increased from 1700 to 2350 in 2 years. The previous flat I lived had problem with rats, the first one full of bedbugs from the previous tenants
London – December 21, 2023
Weird smell started coming from the en suite which got worse and worse to the point we had to drag our mattress into the living room and camp out there for a few weeks. Builder said there is probably a dead animal stuck in the walls. Six weeks later and the dead animal has still not been retrieved. Smell is slowly fading as animal finishes decaying.
Anonymous renting horror stories from tenants in the UK. We might regret this, but at the same time give us what you’ve got.
